Andy and Jo Burwell
David Murray
About us.
A small number of people are directly involved in the running of Kilburnie Angus. The three people with major responsibilities are Andy and Jo Burwell and David Murray.
Andy Burwell is responsible for the day to day operation of the enterprise. As such he sees all the animals regularly and knows them well. He is able to assess them and offer advice to you on them. He is also responsible for seeing that the public events at Kilburnie go well, and that they provide you and us with the maximum benefit.
Joanna Burwell is responsible for the office – which includes data collection and recording. This is one of the most important jobs in the team as we rely very heavily on measured and recorded performance. Jo is also responsible for the accounts. Additionally Jo provides a hand when needed with the animals and has a major input in seeing that the whole system keeps ticking along.
Andy and Jo came to Walcha from England via Queensland. Andy’s family have been on the land for many generations in England. After school he went to Ag College and subsequently worked on arable and livestock farms in the English Midlands. This included work with both performance recorded stud sheep and cattle. He and Jo ran their own British Saddleback Pig stud, winning ribbons at the National Championships. Andy and Jo migrated to Australia in early 2010 and have been at Straban since March 2011. Alice and Ben Burwell are both at school in Walcha, and both help at Straban when extra hands are needed.
David Murray has been breeding and selling performance recorded Angus cattle since 1983 and established Kilburnie Angus at Kilburnie, Walcha some years later. He took a break from cattle breeding in 2006 and re-established Kilburnie Angus at a new location, Straban, in 2009.
All three of us have had long term interests and experience in animal and cattle breeding. Working together at Kilburnie allows us to draw on our different skills and strengths.
A number of other people contribute to the running of the operations - and you will get to meet some of them at our events. We thank them for their assistance. Without them we would be very stretched.
